Ian Petillo, New York based Percussionist, Vocalist, and band leader has been entertaining audiences since the age of 12. Ian's love for music started at the age of 4. Versatile in all styles of music, Ian has proven to be a capable sideman and bandleader on the New York circuit. His formal training began in the 5th grade when he met big band drumming master, Howie Mann. Howie instilled in Ian, a passion for the rich tradition of jazz. After completing his training with Mann, Ian received a scholarship to North Texas State University. His college career was put on hold with a tour of Japan with the New Amsterdam quartet playing swing and traditional jazz. The group performed in various nightclubs and were featured artists at the Houis Ten Bouch Resort during the summer of 1998 playing concert venues for mass audiences. Ian quickly became a fixture on the New York jazz scene, performing with many notables in the jazz circuit such as: Ted Rosenthal, Jane Monheit, Jerry Weldon, Teddy Charles, Dena DeRose, Glen Drews, Billy Drews, Ralph Lalama, Dave Lalama, Dave Pietro, Don Friedman, Lew Soloff, Steve Slagel, Ralph Petersen, Ron Affif , Marcus McLaurine, Diana Witkowski, John Ray, Mike Lewis, Jeb Patton, Nick Russo and Wayne Batchelor to name a few... Ian has worked as a studio musician, playing drums on the Bill Cosby TV series, “The Little Bill Show”. With the Anastasia Rene Jazz Quartet, Ian performed in concert halls, nightclubs, and appeared on television throughout Russia. The group performed in Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, and Moscow. After returning from Russia, the group performed at Carnegie Hall in December of 2005. In addition to his career as a freelance musician, Ian leads his own band, "The Legacy Jazz Band". Ian formed the Legacy Jazz Band in 2000, with the intent to resurrect the lost traditions of jazz, the swing era, and the American Songbook. The group performs a varied repertoire of Latin, Swing, traditional and vocal jazz and Big Band jazz.
